Ouch

I am insane.
Being me, on Tuesday, in the course of hiring a skip, I shifted the conversation to staff and my current situation.
Subsequently, I sent them my resume.

On Wednesday, they offered me a work trial Thursday.
8 hours.
Labouring.
In 39 degree heat.

I said yes 🤣💀

I managed 4 hours.
…but they’re happy and I went back this morning for another 4. Not going in tomorrow, though – I have a 12 cubic metre skip to fill instead.

What’s really interesting – for me – is that even with my health over the last 5 years and being in office work, as much as I felt it (and boy, did I feel it, especially my lower back), I really did enjoy it. Soaked in sweat, ploughing through 4 litres of water, literally digging through piles of waste sorting it – it was fun.

I may not be able to move come Sunday, but I’ll be going back again for sure.
What’s the weirdest job you’ve done that you’ve ever enjoyed?

(and for the record, sorting through piles of waste/recyclables pays a better hourly rate then employment services. Just saying 😁)

A large warehouse filled with huge stacks of compressed recyclable materials and scattered loose recyclables, creating a sense of industrial scale and environmental urgency.

  1. I once had a temporary job “stocktaking” at a cold, drafty and dirty old factory. Counting how many screws or whatever were left in boxes on shelves. I couldn’t believe this was actually something businesses did, every year! Nowadays computers no doubt do this job!
