The Bulletproof Goth

Ramblings

Field notes, work logs, and things worth keeping.

Building the Plumbing

Some months are about the visible things: a launch, a finished book, a new logo. This one has been about the plumbing. The foundations, the pipes and the paperwork that nobody sees when everything works, and everybody notices when it doesn't. Several things moved from “idea” to “real” at once, so here is where it all stands.

Dinkum Jobs Gets a Home
dinkumjobs.com.au now exists, along with its social accounts. The aim is simple and a bit stubborn: job matching done right. That means matching on accuracy and appropriateness rather than just piling up volume, so that the jobs people see are ones that actually suit them. “Jobs that suit.” is the tagline, and it is also the test every decision gets measured against.

It is Victoria-wide from day one, and it sits under a Dinkum house brand that leaves room to grow into other audiences later. There is plenty still to build, but a name, an address and a front door make the whole thing feel different.

The Jobs Accumulator Goes to Work
A job site with no jobs is just an empty shelf, which is where the Jobs Accumulator comes in. It is now implemented: collecting job ads from multiple sources, tidying them into a consistent format, removing duplicates, and getting them ready to be put in front of the right people without the noise.

It is not the glamorous part of the project, and it is exactly the part that decides whether the glamorous parts are worth anything. The next job is making sure it runs reliably on a schedule, rather than depending on my remembering to run it.

The Toolbox Series
Somewhere along the way, a side project turned into a family. The Toolbox series is a set of practical reference documents that put names on patterns many of us live with but struggle to describe: self-talk that sounds positive but quietly isn't, the more obvious negative thought patterns, and the difference between being busy and being genuinely overloaded.

Each one is built from research, and then audited claim by claim, so that the document says no more than the evidence supports. Each pattern gets a plain description of what it looks like, a quick check you can run on yourself, what it may actually be costing you, what might help, and, just as importantly, what not to assume. There is space to write in your own examples, because a reference you can't make your own tends to stay on the shelf.

The family is going to be paid, in a compact A5 print format, and the covers are being hand-drawn as a matching set. More are planned, including one for nurses that will be shaped over time by the people who actually do the work. I suspect that getting a few of these right is going to lead to a great many more.

The Business Structure, Nearly There
Following on from the last update about meeting the accountant and the solicitor, the legal structure is close to complete. I still won't go into the detail, but I will say that a fair number of projects have been waiting on it, so finishing it releases a lot of held-back work. It is a bit like removing a dam: the water was always going to move, it just needed somewhere to go.

Sparkles: Final Updates and a Promotion
Sparkles has had its final round of updates, which means the app is now where I want it for a proper push. That push is coming toward the end of the month, when promotion begins in earnest. If you have been waiting to see what an ADHD-friendly, voice-first productivity app looks like in its finished form, it won't be long now.

As always, the work continues in short bursts and on several fronts at once. More soon.
