Privacy Policy

Version 2.0 · Last updated: 22 October 2026

Sparkles by Fuller (“Sparkles”, “we”, “us”) is an Android app made by Fuller, a business operated by The Bulletproof Goth (ABN 29 438 654 159), Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. This policy explains what Sparkles does with your information — and, just as importantly, what it doesn’t do. It covers Sparkles version 1.0.1 and later.

The short version

What Sparkles keeps on your phone

Sparkles saves the following in its own private storage on your phone, where other apps can’t read it. None of it is sent to us.

How each feature handles your information

Your voice

While Sparkles is running it listens for trigger phrases such as “don’t forget” or “remind me”, and it also listens when you tap the capture button. Whenever the microphone is in use you’ll see a “Listening for your voice” notification.

To turn speech into text, Sparkles asks your phone to do it on the phone itself. Most recent Android phones can. If yours can’t, or its offline speech pack for English (Australia) isn’t installed, Android’s online speech service does it instead; on most phones that is Google’s, and the audio is sent to Google’s servers. Google’s handling of that audio is covered by Google’s privacy policy (policies.google.com/privacy). Settings → Show Debug Info in Sparkles shows which one your phone is using. To keep speech on your phone, download the offline speech pack for English (Australia) in your phone’s language or speech settings.

Sparkles never records or saves audio, and never sends audio to us. When it hears a trigger phrase or you tap capture, it saves the text of that note on your phone. Anything else it hears is not kept. Because it is listening, the speech service may also hear other people talking nearby.

You can turn the microphone off for Sparkles at any time in Android Settings → Apps → Sparkles → Permissions. Voice capture won’t work without it, but everything else will.

Spoken reminders

Sparkles reads reminders and nudges aloud using your phone’s text-to-speech engine. It only gives the engine the words to say. Because they are spoken out loud, people near you can hear them, so keep that in mind for anything private.

Home location (optional)

Sparkles can speak your “when I get home” reminders when you arrive home, but only if you set this up. If you never enter a home address, Sparkles never asks for location permission and does no location processing at all.

When you type in a home address, Sparkles asks Android to find where it is. On most phones Android’s address lookup is provided by Google, so the address you typed is sent to Google once to get its map coordinates. The address and coordinates are then saved on your phone.

Sparkles then asks Android to let it know when you come within about 50 metres of that point. Because you usually arrive home with the app closed, this needs location permission set to “Allow all the time”. Sparkles explains this before Android asks, and you can choose “Not now”. Android’s own location services do the checking; Sparkles is simply told that you have arrived. Sparkles does not keep a history of where you’ve been, does not follow your route, and never sends your location to us.

You can change your home address in Settings at any time, or switch location off for Sparkles in Android Settings → Apps → Sparkles → Permissions. Everything else keeps working.

Calendar (optional)

Only when you ask Sparkles to turn a sticky into a calendar event, it asks for calendar permission, reads the list of calendars on your phone to choose where to put it, and adds that one event. It does not read the events already in your calendar. Once added, the event belongs to your calendar app: if that calendar syncs to an online account (such as Google Calendar), the event syncs too, under that provider’s terms.

Alarms, reminders and nudges

Alarms, reminders, hourly nudges and suggestions are scheduled as notifications on your phone, using Android’s own notification system. No push-notification service or outside server is involved.

Copying text

If you copy a sticky or the diagnostic log, it goes to your phone’s clipboard, where other apps you use can read it. Nothing is copied unless you tap Copy.

Subscriptions and payments

From version 1.0.1, new users need a subscription to use Sparkles. It is sold through Google Play, and Google handles the payment entirely: we never see your card or payment details. People who installed Sparkles before 29 October 2026 keep full access free.

Free trial and renewal. New subscriptions start with a 7-day free trial. If you don’t cancel before the trial ends, Google Play charges the price shown when you signed up, and the subscription then renews each month or year until you cancel. You can cancel at any time in the Google Play app (Profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions), or from the “Manage in Google Play” button in Sparkles. Uninstalling Sparkles does not cancel your subscription.

What the app checks. Sparkles asks Google Play, on your phone, whether your Google account has an active Sparkles subscription, and saves the yes/no answer so your alarms keep working for up to 7 days without internet. To work out whether you keep free access, it reads the date Sparkles was first installed on your phone. Both checks happen on your phone.

What we receive. Google Play gives us order records for subscriptions, such as an order number, its status, the date, the price and tax, and the country of your billing address. They don't include your name or email address. We use them only for accounting, tax, refunds and support. Google also gives us summary statistics, such as install counts and anonymous crash reports if you have chosen to share usage and diagnostics with Google. None of this includes anything you have put into Sparkles.

Phone backups

Sparkles switches off Android’s app backup, so your stickies, anchors, settings and home address are not copied to your Google account’s backup. The trade-off: if you change phones, they don’t come with you.

What Sparkles does not do

Permissions Sparkles requests, and why

Health and other sensitive information

What you say to Sparkles might include things about your health, such as appointments, medication or how you’re feeling. That stays on your phone with everything else, and we don’t collect it. Sparkles is a personal organiser; it is not a medical device and does not diagnose or treat anything.

Information that leaves Australia

We don’t send your Sparkles data anywhere. The Google services described above (online speech recognition, address lookup and Google Play) may process information outside Australia, including in the United States, under Google’s own terms and privacy policy. If you email us, your message is stored by our email provider, Obble, in Australia.

Children

Sparkles is made for adults and is not directed at children. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If a young person uses Sparkles, their notes stay on their phone like anyone else’s, and purchases go through Google Play’s own family controls.

Keeping and deleting your information

On your phone. You can delete stickies and anchors in the app at any time. To remove everything at once, go to Android Settings → Apps → Sparkles → Storage → Clear storage, or uninstall Sparkles. Either one deletes everything Sparkles has stored on your phone. There’s no backup copy, and we can’t recover it afterwards. Clearing storage doesn’t affect free access for people who installed before 29 October 2026.

What we hold. We only hold what you send us (such as support emails) and Google Play’s order records. We keep emails only as long as we need them to help you, and order records for as long as Australian tax law requires (generally five years). You can ask us to delete your emails at any time.

Your rights and complaints

We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles. You can ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by emailing sparkles@bpgm.au. We’ll reply within 30 days. If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, please tell us first. If we don’t resolve it, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.

Keeping it secure

Sparkles’ data sits in the app’s private storage, protected by Android and by your phone’s lock screen. The best protection is a locked phone: anyone who can unlock your phone can open Sparkles and see your stickies.

Changes to this policy

If Sparkles’ data practices change — for example, if a new feature needs a new permission or a new service — we will update this policy before that version is released. The version number and “last updated” date at the top change with it, and we’ll mention significant changes in the app’s update notes on Google Play.
